This policy explains how Deck & Banter ("we", "us"), the show and website operated from 14 Lonsdale Street, Braddon ACT 2612, Canberra, Australia, handles personal information collected through joranesk.pro. We take our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) seriously, and we've tried to write this page in plain English rather than legalese.
1. What we collect
We only collect personal information you actively give us. In practice that means:
- Mailbag submissions — your name (or pseudonym; we love a good pseudonym) and the content of your game suggestion or verdict dispute.
- Episode reminders — your email address and, optionally, your favourite banter level, which we collect purely because it amuses us.
- Direct email — anything you choose to include when writing to [email protected].
We do not collect financial details, government identifiers, or sensitive information of any kind, and we ask you not to include such details in messages to us.
2. How we use it
Your information is used solely to run the show and site: reading and responding to mailbag entries (sometimes on air — using your first name or pseudonym only), sending the fortnightly episode reminder to subscribers, and keeping basic aggregate statistics on which written verdicts get read. We never sell, rent, trade or otherwise commercialise your personal information. There are exactly two of us, and neither of us has the energy for a data brokerage side hustle.
3. On-air use of mail
By sending a mailbag submission, you consent to us reading it (or an excerpt) in an episode, attributed to the name you provided. If you'd prefer your message stay off air, just say so in the message — we honour that without question.
4. Storage and security
Submissions and subscriber lists are stored in access-controlled accounts protected by strong passwords and multi-factor authentication, accessible only to Zoe and Tom. We keep mailbag messages for up to 24 months (in case a dispute segment needs a follow-up) and reminder-list addresses until you unsubscribe. When data is no longer needed, we delete it properly.
5. Disclosure
We disclose personal information only where the law requires it, or to trusted service providers (such as our email delivery service) strictly for the purposes above. Some providers may store data on servers outside Australia; where that happens, we choose providers that offer protections consistent with the APPs.
6. Cookies and analytics
The site uses a small number of cookies, described fully in our Cookie Policy. In short: one remembers your choice on our cookie notice, and optional analytics cookies help us see which episode write-ups are popular. You can decline the optional ones with a single tap.
7. Your rights
Under the APPs, you may request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email [email protected] with the subject line "Privacy request" and we'll respond within 30 days — usually much faster. If you're unhappy with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
8. Children
The site is intended for a general audience and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 15. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, contact us and we'll delete it promptly.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we'll update this page and mention it in the next episode. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
